Pop-Up Class: Fibers & Weaving

Ancient Technologies Series Presents: Backstrap Weaving.
“Along with the invention of spun string, the prehistoric technology of weaving shifted cultural paradigms.”

In this Andean Backstrap Weaving Workshop, attendees will learn to design, wind and weave fabric belts. Led by R. Mertens Fiber Art Professor in JMU’s School of Art, Design and Art History. Supplies provided.

Pop-ups are free, non-credit workshops for students, faculty and community members. Add new skills and ideas to your tool belt with topics ranging from 3D printing to LED programming and glassblowing (lampworking)

Experiment and build out your ideas under the guidance of passionate professors, facilitators and members of the community. Space is limited. Registration is required.
