Where is JMU X-Labs?
JMU X-Labs is located in Lakeview Hall on the James Madison University campus next to Newman Lake.

Where can I park to visit JMU X-Labs?
- JMU faculty and staff with purple tags may park in L lot, directly in front of Lakeview Hall.
- JMU students with parking permits may park in R2 lot, across the street next to Starbucks.
- JMU visitors can get a temporary pass from Parking Services to park in either L lot or R2 lot.
- For event parking, details will be posted on each specific Eventbrite page.

When is the lab open to the public?
JMU X-Labs is open to the public during Open Lab hours.
Fall 2018 Open Lab hours
Mondays – 9:30am-2:30pm
Tuesdays – 9:30am-1:30pm
Wednesdays – 9:30am-2:30pm
Thursdays – 9:30am-1:30pm
Fridays – 9:30am-1:30pm
Sundays – 8:00am-10:00pm
What can I do during Open Lab hours?
During Open Lab hours, all of the lab’s equipment and supplies are available for use. Common projects and activities include, but are not limited to virtual reality, 3D printing, laser cutting, glass etching, soldering, sticker making, button making and milling. Open Lab is open to all students, faculty, staff and community members.

How can I get help with my project/business?
Open Lab hours are staffed by professionals who can give you guidance on machinery, making and entrepreneurship. For specific questions about your project or business, please email [email protected].
How much does it cost to use the lab?
JMU X-Labs is free for students, faculty, staff and community members. Common materials such as plywood, vinyl and 3D printer filament are available free of charge, but if you need specific materials or plan to use a lot of these items, we suggest bringing your own. For questions, please email [email protected].

How can I schedule a tour?
If you are interested in touring JMU X-Labs either individually or with a group, please email [email protected]du so that we can arrange a suitable time and parking accommodations.
How can I schedule a tour/workshop for my group?
If you have a group that would like to take a tour of the lab or participate in a special workshop, please contact us at [email protected]. If you would like to do a workshop with your group, please include how many people are in you group and what type(s) of equipment you are interested in using. Pop-Ups are free to attend unless otherwise noted on the Eventbrite registration.
Who can take JMU X-Labs classes?
Academic classes at JMU X-Labs are for registered undergraduate students at James Madison University. If you are a JMU graduate student wishing to participate in a class, please email [email protected].
How do I register for a class?
Our academic classes have limited space, so we ask that anyone interested in a course fill out an application/interest form, located on each class page. If you have been accepted into a course, a faculty member will reach out to you and you will be able to register through MyMadison.
How many credit hours is a JMU X-Labs class worth?
The number of credit hours can vary depending on the class, but most JMU X-Labs classes are worth 3 credit hours. Check the class web page and MyMadison for more details.
How much do JMU X-Labs classes cost?
Tuition costs for JMU X-Labs classes are the same as other JMU classes and can be found on the University Business Office page.
How can I be a mentor for one of the classes?

Registration for all of our events are through Eventbrite. We will make an announcement on all our social media channels when registration for a certain event is open.
