Reminisce on the best Pop-up classes and workshops JMU X-Labs has to offer before we pack up our supplies and start planning for the Fall.
Have you ever wanted your very own ukulele? Now’s your chance to build one yourself! No prior experience required. All musicians and non-musicians are welcome. We’ll be using a suite of maker technology to create and customize your very own Youkulele. We’ll wrap up with a jam session with pre-made instruments at the end of the Pop-Up class.
The year is winding down. Finish up your grad cap, make some graduation gifts and laser engrave your very own brick as we watch this semester draw to a close. Materials (and bricks!) provided.
Ever seen the cooking show Chopped? Now is your chance to be a participant! UREC and the X-Labs introduce their first collaboration for a pop-up in the state-of-the-art demonstration kitchen! There will be a basket of hidden ingredients presented; while, as a team everyone will work together to create an amazing dish! The theme for the food is: things leftover in a college dorm room.
Got a witty saying or a cool design that would look great on a t-shirt or other piece of clothing? Want to decorate or cut up a shirt for an upcoming concert? Bring a piece of clothing to JMU X-Labs and have some fun upgrading a piece for your closet. Design and decorating supplies provided, please bring your own clothing item.
Graduation time is around the corner! Grab your grad cap from the bookstore and then head down to JMU X-Labs to design and decorate. An array of supplies will be provided.
Who says it’s too late to become a rocket scientist? Have fun making things fly through the air at this Pop-up class. Fly drones through quidditch hoops and make rockets soar. Materials provided.

Learn about sustainable planting and get the tips and tricks you need to care for your house plants. Each attendee will get a plant to start their own garden, or add to their collection of house plants along with the supplies to build and decorate a one-of-a-kind planter.
Ancient Technologies Series Presents: Backstrap Weaving.

In this Andean Backstrap Weaving Workshop, attendees will learn to design, wind and weave fabric belts. Led by R. Mertens Fiber Art Professor in JMU’s School of Art, Design and Art History. Supplies provided.
